Comprehensive Escalator Canopy Program

The team of Jon Lourie, Richard Chenoweth and Richard Houghton won the national design competition for new escalator wellway canopies for the Washington Metro system.

Their design – an iconic gateway to the Washington Metrorail system – won a DC AIA Award for Excellence.

Lourie & Chenoweth, LLC have designed 28 wellway canopies in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Lourie Architects recently completed the installation of a new wellway canopy at the Foggy Bottom Metro Station.
